Tribes, By Seth Godin

This past week I read Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us, by Seth Godin. The purpose of the book is to motivate people to become leaders of tribes. The book encourages anyone with a passion about something to find others of similar interests and lead them. The book is full of examples of people doing exactly that; whether they’re passionate about local restaurants or feeding the hungry.

Unfortunately, I bought the book thinking that the main idea was something very different. I supervise several tribes that must work well together in order for all of us to be successful. I read Tribes because I hoped to find insights about how to lead multiple tribes that must move together. As a result, I didn’t take away as much new insights as I might have.

I was, however, very motivated by the book and I believe that others will be as well. The examples are excellent and one cannot help but feel empowered to lead a group toward an important goal (important to you, anyway). If you need that motivation I recommend this book.

You can find Tribes on Amazon.com.
